Rotary & Rockin' Readers/Mighty Mentors

What is Rockin' Readers?

A reading program at Van Buren Elementary School to motivate students that want to read.

How does this program fit into Rotary Goals?

The Rotary International theme for 2008-2009 is Making Dreams Real.  One of the areas is literacy.  Rotary and Van Buren have partnered together for a number of years.

What is required of a mentor?

A little flexible time of 20-40 minutes to an hour once a week, twice a month or whatever will fit into the volunteer's schedule to read to a child, or listen to a child read.

Volunteer hours will be collected weekly form the school.  They may be used to count toward make ups for Rotary attendance to the Rotary Make up guidelines.

How to get Started.

Fill out the Rockin' Readers registration card and volunteer disclosure card statement.  Those participating in last year's program should sign a new registration card only.

The program runs from October 1 through May 1.

Do I have to volunteer for the entire year?

No, volunteer as you are able.
