The Object of Rotary is to “encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.”  Rotary is a service organization.  Since 1910, the Rotary Motto has been “Service Above Self.”  The Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids West serves in the community and around the world:

 

End Polio Now

 

All seven Cedar Rapids area metro Rotary clubs are joining together to host a luncheon to raise public aware of Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio.  The public is welcome. Seats are limited.  The luncheon is Nov 19, 2009 at the Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education. Learn more.

Annual Pancake Breakfast

 

An annual event every March at Jefferson Highschool.  Proceeds are used to provide scholarships for graduating high school students attending Kirkwood Community College.

Flood Relief

 

Cedar Rapids West Rotary has joined with Helping Hands to help provide assistance to families who were severly impacted by the floods of 2008.

Appliance Project

 

As a part of the flood recovery plan, the seven Rotary clubs of the Cedar Rapids metro area have chosen to assist 250 of the hardest-hit families with the replacement of major appliances.

 

Interact

 

West Rotary sponsors a vibrant Washington High School Interact Rotary Club.  These young men and women demonstrate their leadership by organizing, volunteering and serving needs in the community while applying the principles of Rotary.

 

Ghana Water Project

 

Cedar Rapids West Rotary is working with a Rotary District 9100 club in Ghana, in western Africa, to provide clean drinking water for 10,000 people in southeastern Ghana.  John Mack of West Rotary recently traveled to Ghana to help assess and plan for Cedar Rapids West Rotary help.
